Commissary ID card. I have read that you have to get a form (letter?) from VARO and take it to a commissary to get your ID Card. I live between Fort Rucker, Eglin AFB, Pensacola Navel Air station, Maxwell & Gunter AFB. Will the card be good at any base?

My VARO is in Montgomery so will go to Maxwell or Gunter AFB to get card. Do both have Commissary? Going tomorrow.

Yes, you need the letter from the VARO, assuming your are 100% or IU. While there get letters for all of your state and other federal benefits. I generally get 2 copies just in case I lose one.

That the commissary letter to the ID section on base.

Not sure if Maxwell or Gunter has a commissary, only was there a few days TDY and that was in another time and age. lol

it appears that both sites have a commissary. This information is easily found on the web.

You do not take the letter to a commissary. You must take it to an installation with a "RAPIDS" terminal. A site with a "RAPIDS" terminal can enter you in "DEERS" (Defense Eligibility Enrollment System) and they will create your DOD Privilege Card

Thanks to all. Maxwell commissary is closed tomorrow but Gunter is open. Of course Maxwell has a Rapids site and Gunter does not. Award letter to VARO, VARO "Letter" to Rapids site at Maxwell AFB. They make the card then and there? Photo ID? i e I would like to get one for the wife, does she have to be there? Copy of Marr record?

JanB999 I have been reading to my head spins and have already been to that site. Looked at Eglin AFB and Fort Rucker.

Got my life insurance application in, have done the paper work for Champva, send off tomorrow. Me head go round and round.

Saved $90 dollars on car tags, Disabled Vet. In Alabama they put the branch of service on the tag. Not sure Maxwell AFB will let me on Base with an Army sticker on my tag!

I'll shut up now and listen.

There should be a little Sheepish Grin smily face.

No problem Larry:

If you want to get cards for spouse and minor children. You will need to take Marrage Certificate and Birth Certificates for all. They will also have to appear personally for photos. If you intend to drive on station you must have current registration and insurance card in order to get a decal for car. AF doesn't require them any longer but everyone else does.

Call ahead of time to get the complete list of everything you need to bring with you so everything can be done on the first visit with no time wasted. We thought we had been told by the VA everything we needed to bring, but found out different.

Clues:

Your wife and legal dependents are entitled to DoD Privilege Cards. Any one that wants one must appear in person for photo. They will make them on the spot when you turn in DD form 1172 along with Commissary letter from VARO.

There is an online fillable form 1172 form here: DD form 1172 Fill it out and take it with you. This will save you the trouble of searching for info at the RAPIDS site.

Auto decals are DoD wide. A valid decal issued anywhere is valid on any installation or DOD activity.

I the wife and daughter just got our cards, they required the social Security card for the wife and daughter also, but as mentioned above you might want to call first to check and we had to make an appointment.

Thanks for that good detailed information. Would you believe my printer ran out of ink! I got one form filed out and printed. I'll get the Commissary Letter from VARO tomorrow. Go back Thursday with wife and get ID cards. Rome was not built in a day. I had appendix burst and almost checked out of here. This is not urgent but I need to get it done and over with.

These VA rules are about as much fun as the income tax laws.

It sounds like you think you go to the commissary for your ID card. You go to the ID card section/office of the base, not the commissary. Just making sure there is no misunderstanding here.

Yes you do need a decal for the Air Force at least Randolph and Lackland require them or you have to get a temporary vehicle pass

Within the last 90 days an AF directive was published stating they were doing away with decals. I no longer have a link to that and am way too lazy to search for it. I thought that was the dumbest idea I'd heard in a long time but then that's the AF for ya. No surprise there.

you also need to get a letter for EVERYTHING else. Ask your vso for "tax" , fishing, letters for tag for car, also your free $10,000 life ins.

Ok and that is why they stoped my son in his new vehicle (who works at Lackland) because they changed the regulation? Actually I think it is smart to have the decals, adds an extra layer of security
