Brother Tao wrote:The Concerned Veterans of America is the only veterans group I am aware of that publicly and strongly supported the administration proposal to cut diisability individual unemployability benefits to veterans eligible to receive social security. It was a cruel hearted proposal to cut benefits to over 200,000 of us in our senior years when we are weaker than we once were. Shulkin made it clear he was only backing off because of pressure from veterans and especially veterans groups.
I am proud of our veteran groups and their lobbying efforts including giving us guidance on how to make ourselves heard. I actually did not even know it was occurring until I decided to check in here at VBN. I am reminded reading through these posts that we are so much stronger together. We are a fighting force now as we once were.
That is why some disgust with the ideologically driven agenda of Concerned Veterans of America is in order. It is in order because they serve as a front for a well funded operation to hide behind the word veterans. They lobby for an agenda that curries favor with wealthy donors who have helped them gain the appearance of a valid vets organization. Their presence and well funded activity provide a platform for their personally ambitious leader. They also provide cover for congresspeople who want to be able to say they listened to veterans.
Dont get me wrong. We need organizations that represent us in a bipartisan way with Congress. However this group is pushing and praising the VA for virtually every budget cut they propose. It makes their leader a permanent fixture on Fox News where he butters his own bread under the mantle of Concerned Veterans of America. The name itself is a little Orwellian given that they are the exact opposite of what their name promises.
I hope my post is not considered political. I am not taking political sides. I am just pointing out who was on our side fighting for veterans and who was throwing rocks in the road the rest of us were trying to go down. I would hate to have these guys leading me in combat but now that I think about it they wouldn't be anywhere near enough to the front to lead!
Thats just the way I feel.........thanks everyone for looking out for us older guys!

This article is worth the read especially the part on Individual Unemployability. He actually calls it what it is "an earned benefit" quite the opposite of Shulkin. Some of us in New Jersey were skeptical about where he stood, but now that he has spoken so strongly, I doubt he could ever go back on his words.
