If he went into a combat zone he would have received combat pay and in-country pay was tax free/ He should get his pay records.

I also have (4) DD214's (2 Navy & 2 USAF) I served a full tour in Vietnam Jan/71-Jan/72. Retired in 1975 and in 2004 went to VA
for the 1st time ever, for hearing problems and DBII, they then asked me if I was a Vietnam Vet and told them I spent a year in Vietnam and showed the VA my Retired DD214 and the earlier DD214 neither showed Vietnam Service Tour (just overseas tour). I then showed them my Bronze Star
award which stated Vietnam service and they said that was not good enough, to make a long story short I had to request a DD215 and that showed my Vietnam
Service tour and medals awarded. As far as I know the Air Force does not keep record of TDY orders at the AF record center, so your best bet is to have it
verified in your own way (Sgt, Officer etc.) Good Luck...

We have a congressman doing a search but it appears records destroyed but not in the fire... Conveniently lost. We have buddy letters and photos but that is it. Any suggestions? Pay records and orders have been requested but we have little hope of any to be found. So far just NO RECORD. He was TDY from Phillipines by the way. AIr Force mechanic worked on the Ranch Hand Aircraft.
