I am a Vietnam Vet. 1970-71 Medvaced out of Nam 3/71 with heititis and Malaria.
Originally filed a claim 1972 with the VA for Hepitits and Malaria. was denied for both. Was advised they lost my medical records. 2 years ago obtained a copy of partial medical records from ben woa and it states I had hepitis and malaria on my military record. Filed a claim for a number of disabilities April 2005 was denied for all. My senators office last Oct 2006 sent in a reconsideration for PTSD and DMII I was approved 50%PTSD and 10% DMII I am currently connected 50% PTSD and 10 % DM II ....Senators office re-submittted a re-consideration MArch 2007 the VA lost the paper work All the papers were re-sent April 2007 for
heart problems(I have a stent and a few heart attackes), Hypertension, Malaira, Heptits I called the N.Y. RO 2 weeks ago and was advised that it is in rating. I have my senator's office as my representative. If 2 weeks ago it was in the rating, Do you have an idea when I should have this finalaized , and the process

every time i've inquired on a claim and it's been in rating, it could be months. but on the other hand, you might hear back soon. so far as i know, there really isn't any sure fire way of knowing exactly how much longer.

Hey i filed a claim last year and i kept gettting letters about were still processing. Today i got one that says we need specfic dates and locations. I gave them what i could remember but i just dont remember exact dates and locations, i just rememeber it happened and i have nightmares about it. I dont know what to put on the form or send them.I just want to be correct in the process that i am not denied. I just dont rememeber it all. Please help!

You should reply, and write a statement that you have included all the information that you have. If not, they will put a hold on your case, and keep it in the processing stage. I filed my claim, and I had to write a statement to let them know that I have no additional information and to continue to process my claim with the information given. It took me about 8 months to get my claim approved for 30 percent for flat feet. My claim went to rating and it was approved 18 days later. You have to stay on top of your claim, and call the 800 number at least once a week to make sure things are in order. They had my claim held up, and I called headquarters in Nashville, TN. to get my paper work processed faster. It takes an average of 21 days after they receive paper work to process it into the system.

You really should start your own thread so we can help you with your specific problem. Do that and tell us what you applied for and maybe we will be able to help.

I'm  just going to address the hepatitis and malaria from the perspective of a former DRO.

First hepatitis. A simple blood test in 1972 would have confirmed that you had hepatitis.  If your service medical records weren't available and you had just got out of service with a blood test showing hepatitis anti-bodies to be present, VA wouldn't have denied the claim. Did you provide VA with any medical evidence showing that you cAndarried the hepatitis anti-bodies? And what was the denial reason for the 2005 denial? If you had service medical records showing hepatitis in service and evidence showing that it wasn't cured (not all hepatitis is incurable), service connection should have been granted.  Is it possible that you had a different type hepatitis in 1971 than you have today, and that the 1971 hepatitis was cured. For example, infectious hepatitis (commonly seen in Vietnam) is very different from hepatitis C.

Now on to malaria. This is really almost a moot point unless you have a relapse because it will just be evaluated at 0 percent. And if you do have a relapse (a relapse must be proven by a blood test) there would be no problem with service connection.

my claim for ESRD and IHD has been in the "rating office",since the first week in january !!!
