Hello everyone, I've been dealing with chronic pain for quite some time stemming from bad knees, feet and a bad back, i.e. herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica just to name a few. I've been dealing with the VA for quite some time on this issue and so far have yet to find a doctor that is willing to help me with my pain management. I've gone as far as request a change of primary care practitioner and got a new Dr. The new Dr. changed me from the Tramadol that I had been taking forever and changed it to 5mg Hydrocodones 3 to 4 times daily as needed for pain which did no good at all for my pain management. I've tag teamed between Oxycodone and Hydrocodone numerous times and the last time I was taking it they had me up to 10mg 3 to 4 times daily as needed for pain. The pain wasn't being managed by the medication and I have told my Dr. numerous times and it seems to fall on deaf ears. I finally got tired of not being listened to and having to suffer so I went to the Dept. Head at the VA hospital, can't remember at the moment his title but nothing really happened other than I was able to get my medication filled that day due to having run out because I was taking 4 a day of the 3 to 4 as needed for pain and they wouldn't refill even though I ran out before the end of the month. Well, I finally just got tired of it and told them to put me back on tramadol. The Tramadol seemed to help a little for a while but I am taking over the maximum dosage every day and my pain continues to worsen to the point that I can't stand it. I'm taking 8 x 50mg tablets of Tramadol a day and it's not even touching my pain now. I'm just wondering what you have to do to get adequate pain management/care in the VA Health Care System. I'm just trying to get my pain levels adequately addressed. I would understand a doctor being hesitant if I didn't have any documentation to back up my pain claims but I have MRI's and the surgeries to prove that my knees, feet and back are messed up and have been giving me pain since 1995. If anyone can provide me any input as to how to navigate this screwed up health-care system I would greatly appreciate it. I'm just hoping that praying that they will finally award me 100% so that I can go see a civilian Dr. and go to a real pain clinic. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.
