It does not matter what branch of service you are in. The VA determines if you separated with a personality disorder and if you are entitled to benefits. Check 38 U.S.C.A. 1110, 1131, 5107 (West 2002), 38 C.F.R. 3.303, 4.9 (2002)

While your at it you can also check AFI 36-3208 which is the air force instructions for administrative discharges. The army reg is AR 635-200, chapter 5-13. The DOD gave all the services directions to issue their own regulation and there are only some minor differences.

I am not trying to shoot you down on your post but the way it works is the same for all of them. You go see the psych, he makes a diagnosis, the commander writes a letter, the airman goes around to all the sections, including SJA to get it signed off and away you go.

In my opinion the AF is the worst of them all. They plaster personality disorder in your narriative reason for separation on your 214 even though that is not the reason why you are being administratively discharged. I think Brian got a MEB but my son only had 2 years, 2 months service so they didn't even think twice about handing out the admin discharge. (edited: He had no problems with his job. He completed his CDC's, received his 5 level AFSC, got all 5's on his performance reports, no discipline at all. He completed BMT, Keesler 12 wk school, Enlisted aircrew undergraduate course, combat and water survival and psychological training course with no problems, had a TS SCI security clearance, but he had a personaltiy disorder from his childhood, BS.)

Anyway, I don't want to get started with a long post on personality disorder because I would probably be here all night. I believe the military hands out the personality discharges, in my opinion, because they are easy to do and they really don't give a crap whether you are eligible for VA disability or not. Look at the MEB, PEB post on here and then figure it takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get you gone with an administrative discharge. They opt for the 2 to 3 weeks everytime if they can get by with it.

I have been trying to get a 214 corrected for 5 years and we ain't got there yet. They issued 2 DD Forms 215 and even got them screwed up. We have sent in another request for correction but I'm sure it will be a while.

Anyway, I've been there, done that and I have a file cabinet about 1/2 full but an ending is in sight. Well, unless this would be a good time to send all the stuff to a congress critter.
