In Alabama, first we had to get a private physician to concur with the VA's 100% permanent and total decision which we did. Secondly, from what my husband and I both understood from the Tax Collector, it was based on "your income." She further said that with what the VA pays there was no way to meet the criteria for personal property tax exemption. However, she said a certain percentage would be deducted ,but when it was all said and done, we could tell little difference in the amount we had normally been paying. I called the VA representative for this county and he said, "They were wrong." Next, after a lengthy discussion when she iniated a called to him he said they were right. Therefore, if we are receiving any deduction at all it is not enough to make much of a difference, but of course every little bit helps. Does this sound correct?? I was wondering if other Vets from Alabama have experienced something similiar?
