Posts: 71 Oct 3 12 9:54 PM	Tags : None Good evening everybody, hope everybody is having a blessed evening. I have been trying to find any reference for toenail fungus and if its even rated. I had my toenail removed once in the Navy for fungus and ingrown toenail. I still have the condition and last year I had to go to the emergency room to get the same toenail removed once again. I'm very new to these forums and I'm not sure if I can put a claim for this, it started in the service when I used to wear stee toel boots and sweat all day like crazy.....I dont think there was ever a diagnosis in my medical record, but I know for sure the removal got annotated. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. God bless nmvet

Posts: 1488 Oct 4 12 5:07 AM	I tried all the over the counter remedies as well several home remedies like the Vicks mentioned above. I had it for over ten years and nothing worked. One round of VA supplied Terbinafine and it's been gone for over two years now. I'm not sure if or how it could be rated but if you want it gone, try the Terbinafine. If the Veterans of our country followed up their promises as the Politicians have, we would all be speaking English as a 2nd language!

Posts: 17413 Oct 4 12 1:01 PM	It's called onychomycosis and VA grants service connection for it all the time when it is chronic; however, it almost always gets a 0 percent evaluation. At the same time you do get free treatment for it. Cruiser

Posts: 17 Oct 7 12 11:20 PM	I too had a problem with ingrowing toe nail just before I was retired on disability. As the toenail began growing back it took on an real disgured look. I then noticed the other toe nails were growing real thick and ugly. That was in 1967, and I have been fighting the fungus ever since. All my toes are effected now and I now have to use an electric moto tool with a sanding disc to trim my toe nails. I tried all kinds of expensive and cheap cures for the fungus, but found the only thing that worked was apple cider viniger. It kills athelete feet as well. I soaked my feet in it twice a day until it cleared up. I didn't throw away my old shoes, so when I quit the soaking my feet the fungus came back. Soaking your feet in your urine will also kill fungus and athelete foot. Dewdo from the other Washinngton

This is an old wives' story that has been around for about as long as there have been old wives. While urine is sterile, it contains no antibacterial or antifungal properties. Cruiser
