Posts: 34 Mar 5 12 2:55 PM	Does a secondary disability have to exist from the time you were in the service, or can the secondary disability have come because of the first disability at a later time? US Army 72-75, 60% valvular heart disease, aorta valve replaced in 2007, now have aorta aneurysm 5cm (compensatible) filed claim, VA asking for proof since military service, they just awarded me disability 0% for the scar on chest from open heart surgery done in 2007, which I didn't ask for, the aorta root I'm sure has been diseased over the years, but aneurysm only showed up in last 2 years. Any one know the Reg, that covers this type of situation? Thanks

Posts: 12936 Mar 5 12 4:41 PM 10,000 plus post...	Where you awarded 60% for valvular heart disease or for IHD and you had valvular complications. It makes a big difference. The only way I see you awarded for valvular is if it was DX' in service or within one year of separation. I could however see you getting awarded 60% for IHD due to AO exposure. Posts: 3 Mar 5 12 10:12 PM	If you are service connected for Hypertension you may have a chance of a secondary claim for the AA. It would depend on a medical nexus as to the relationship of the AA to your heart issues. Jbasser

We need to prove TCDD damages the endothelial cells of the cardiac arteries leading to the development of cardiac artery blockages from blood born particles sticking to the damaged interior CA surfaces or that TCED directly damaged cardiac muscle directly leading to IHD. Do the AO products damage the blood vessels in other ways leading to aneurysms and strokes, weakening them, does TCDD dioxin products damage heart valves? We're quickly running out of long term living exposed lab rat vets. Prehaps it's time to product more exposed lab rats, the civilian population this time, young specimens for long term studies?

Posts: 407 Mar 6 12 10:44 PM	lou, just a cryptic comment on the sad state of AO medical research affairs in this country. Basically all that was done with the hundreds of millions spent on research was blood tests of the guys who applied the stuff and extensive medical histories on the Ranchhand boys and their offspring/familes. Additional case study analysis of hundreds of thousands of diseases cases and statical comparison to those who served in RVNW. We came up a winner by reason of higher percentage of disease compared to general population not because of strong basic medical cellular research into the true causes of AO diseases. NO genetic damage studies or extensive research was done, either mitochondrial DNA or nuclear cell DNA on those that suffer AO caused diseases. Probably too late to push for more research, there are many who don't want the answers because of cost. gone fishin' but don't always eat what I catch. No safe due to pollutants such as mercury, PCBs, dioxin etc.

My CP exam I was diagnosed with AO IHd, CAD,CHF, with related illness cardiomyopathy, coronary bypass graft 2006. Also have a AICD since 07, have been on SSDI for 5 years, my heart condition is mets 1-3 , with EF at 27%.... Can you give me some incite as to how they would rate this?? I have been is discovery at the Oakland RO sinc Oct. 2010!! sixteen months!!! it's my first time around with the VA, had no idea it would take this long...believe my claim is in the 405 pile......

Although a lot of your conditions probably rate 100%, the AICD is automaticn100% P&T If they don't give you the 100% P&T, be prepared to file a CUE, since CFR 38 specifically says an AICD is 100 and you are not going to get better so it is permanent. Posts: 3410 Mar 8 12 7:41 PM	I know about cfr38 and all the other rules and regs. But you just watch and see if I am not the first to be denied for my implant. The second nod will go in rhe next day after denial. After cabg x 3 there were three instances where I felt like fainting. Twice I did . The stupid dreadmill found the polymorphic ventrical tachardia. The rest is history. Sent in new claim 4 months and waiting. Daman looks for movement every week ....E bennies is stuck for me.

Thanks I want to try to clarify some items in my original post: Secondary Disabilities (1972-1975) by the time I was old enough to enlist, the war in Viet Nam was in the closing stages and I was not sent to Nam. Therefore, AO is not a factor here. In 1975 before ETS, I became ill with some form of hepatitis with rheumatic symptoms, a heart murmur was detected, and heart cath was performed and diagnosed with valvular heart disease. Aorta stenosis, so it was service connected, 32 years later in 2007 the aorta valve had to be replaced. 7000-7016 Valvular Heart Disease Service Connected, Peacetime, Incurred 10% from 10/16/1975 100% from 02/13/2007 60% from 09/01/2008 In 2010 I started having some familiar symptoms, testing was done the MRI showed an aorta aneurysm 5cm x 4.6cm, 8 months later a CT showed aorta aneurysm 4.9cm x 4.8cm. In the CFR 38 - 4.104 - 7110, an aneurysm is compensability when it reaches 5cm. This brings me to a second question that I posted a while back and I hope to get some feedback here. I filed a claim secondary to my valvular heart disease and this is the way my VSO wrote it up (applying for compensation increase for service connected heart condition) never mentioning the aneurysm as secondary to the valvular heart disease. The VA ran test on the aorta valve its doing better so I was denied, proposing to reduce to 30%. I have submitted another claim worded the right way, I hope. My question is with my evidence, the cardiologist has put in progress notes that”Aneurysmal ascending aorta measuring 5 cm x 4.6 cm, likely part of the spectrum of by bicuspid valve and aortopathy” Cruiser commented “ the doctor says that it is "likely" that they are connected; however, the doc does not say what that relationship is.” And thought I would need more proof. After going back and reviewing the C&P report from my first claim in which the C&P doctor made comment and summary on the aorta aneurysm, after denying the claim for, how it was wrote up, he stated in his DIAGNOSES,(quote)" 1. Aortic valve replacement for aortic stenosis. 2. Aneurysm of the thoracic aorta. This is most likely related to the aortic stenosis.” My question IS this going to be sufficient evidence in my second claim connecting the two diseases together? Posts: 34 Mar 10 12 2:08 AM	SC awarded for valvular heart disease,(1975) probably congenital, however, atypical rheumatic fever cannot be ruled out due to rheumatoid syndrome before heart murmur detected.
