I've been a member for roughly a week now. Received decision on my original claim last week after 11 months and received the basic retro with no dependents. When I went to my illustrious VSO for assistance with filing last year (won't call out the entire organization - the individual who assisted me is probably the problem), he advised me not to send in my dependent information. I had filled in the info on my original claim and had my stepchildren's birth certificates, SSN cards, marriage cert, etc. But my VSO said that wasn't necessary for him to make copies at that time and submitted my claim without them (cos he didn't feel like making copies I presume). Now that my claim is complete, VA has requested copies of those items in order to pay me the rest of my retro for my dependents.
Has anyone experienced this and anyone have a rough idea on how long it takes? It seems it should be as simple as adding the SSNs and filing the birth certs and cutting the authorization for pay. However, I see in ebenefits a new claim called Dependency and it is in the Development Phase. Please tell me this isn't going to take another 11 months!!
