cwind,    The exam is the next step in the claims process. It is a good thing.  Once he does the exam it will go to the rating dept. to be reviewed. No one can give you a nailed down time frame as to how long it will take to be rated and notified. For my experiences his seemed to have taken longer to get to c&p than mine.  Mine took 3 months. Then after that it took 3 more months to be notified. The process is not the same time frame from different R.O.s, some have bigger work loads than others thus requiring longer process times, but then some slip thru fairly quickly. You just never know. 
                Having said that, he just has to be patient and take his turn in line, not get worked up, relax out. I know this is hard to do, but worrying is not going to speed things up.  The rating will not get done in a few weeks. It appears he is still months down the road to have his claim rated. And even though he made the cut to get the C&P, there is still no guarantee he will be awarded, and if awarded what the percentage would be.
                We wish him well and hope things go his way, but for sure have him DOCUMENT all information about his health issues to the R.O. in support of his claim.
