How do I find out Exactly How my Disability Percentage is Calculated?

Posts: 6031 Apr 17 10 9:54 AM	Tags : None I recently got S/C for tinnitus at 10%, but they say my overall disability rating remains unchanged at 50%. I have had at least a 50% S/C rating for well over 20 years. Some time back, I got an additional 20% rating, and that raised me up to 60%. Then, that was taken away, and i reverted back to 50% again. So, I am wondering why my new 10% does not raise me up? So what do I request from VA to get the breakdown of the exact percentages assigned for each S/C disability.? Posts: 394 Apr 17 10 9:58 AM	I would try the match calculator in this thread: http://vets.yuku.com/topic/36441 It will figure your percentage for you. They round up or down depending on where you fall between the percentages. You should have something that shows your individual ratings for each condition in one of your decision letters. Such as: right ankle 20%, left toe 30%, etc. What form do I request to get that information? It did NOT come with my decision. I know there is also a page on the VA site with this info too. It seems odd that there was not any reasoning included with your rating decision. Mine always had verbiage about how they concluded how the SC condition was rated.

Posts: 11385 Apr 17 10 10:44 AM	Old Medic: It could be that your combined rating was rounded up to the 50%. for example a 40 and a 10 would be 46 which is rounded up to 50% pay level 46 and an additional 10 would yield 51 which is still paid at 50%. If you don't know the exact % of each of your SC disabilities, ask your VSO or Regional Office for a copy of the rating decisions. Member-at-large: Disturbed Veterans of America. Posts: 1952 Apr 17 10 5:58 PM	Medic, I too never understood why, at one point I was rated 50% S/C for PTSD and 10% for Tinnitus, but my overall rating was 50%! "Good to see you back witchdoctor". For those who fought for it, freedom has a meaning the protected will never know.

Posts: 2033 Apr 17 10 8:09 PM	The Old Medic, you can request a copy of the rating page from your claims folder at the regional office. I got a complete copy of my claims folder a few years ago and each time they do any changes, etc. a sheet gets generated with a breakdown of your percentages, the rating code, etc. If you request a copy of your claims folder you should be able to get this information once you go through the files.
