Hang in there bigred. Everything will work out. Patience is required for all good things to take place. Check with some fo the other vets on board here to
see if you can qualify for IU. You need income, and that's a good place to start. Try for SSD also. Those two things will take some time, but pay off in
the long run.

IU is in the works....SSD is a pain fighting them on appeal...Amazing how this service connected disability came back to bite me... Have an appointment with VA
mental health on the 23rd if I have transportation.. Never thought I would be here... My VSO seems to think there will be no problem with the IU have tried
several job apps no one will hire me... Very frustrating and I am busted...

If you used a VSO , give him a call & explain your situation to him( lost job) . Many times the VSO can get your claim fast tracked for reasons like you
have being almost destitute..I don't know how much faster it is, BUT, Its worth a try.

Might want to give one of your local Military organizations a call. I know I am a Life Member of the DAV and we give help to vets for things
like your going through. It should be noted, that they will help you as much as they can, but it is not an ongoing thing.

It all went straight thru him and he is trying to based on the very recent increase in rating for the seizures... On the other hand my records were chosen for
star review so they are held up so we will see... He is hoping it will happen this month..

bigred,
Next step I'd take is get in touch with one of the agencies that helps folks consolidate their debt. They usually are able to combine the debts and get the payments lowered. Know this, just about every single one of us on this board that has IU was where you are now, that includes me. Brian E-6 USAF Ch 61 Ret 80% IU/P&T SC http://www.vote-them-out.org "A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'" The key to fighting depression... | #13 | ||||||
|
...is perspective, my friend. You must regard the woes you are going through as temporary, and the anxiety that feeds your depression as situational. Trust
me - there are very few disabled vets who have not experienced periods of moderate to severe depression. Even a hero like Audie Murphy once contemplated
suicide in his latter life. That is why he led the fight to have PTSD recognized as a legitimate disability.
So chin up, and buck up, my friend. You will look back on this time in your life and ask yourself, "How did I ever get like that?" And you will be healthy again. |

Big Red,
Check with your VSO and county officials. In my state (Washington) the counties are required to maintain a fund for veterans in need. There might be some help there for you. Good Luck and hang in there brother! cacti |

bigred is there a phone number on that letter? I would start making phone calls, they stalled your claim so Washington could do a quality review?!! That seems
messed up and not in your best interest.

bigred....I know where you are coming from. When I went into a manic episode, while in Florida, we lost everything including my car. I was in sales and lost
my job, and the clod who owned the company decided to reneg on our original agreement and owed me $60,000 which I'll never see. He also claimed me as a
1099 and so he didn't take taxes out on me. I fought that with the IRS and won my case that he couldn't (no longer) claim salesmen as 1099's. The
problem is that the damage was done and I still owe the IRS $1500.00. It was up to over $3000.00 so I am making some progress on it.
I am bi-polar, and am service connected. It took me a while to get my eggs all in the basket. I'm now 100% IU and was recently told after a denial that my SSDI claim, which went before a judge, was found to be fully in my favor. I will eventually get some cash and back pay from SSDI. My point is not to brag, but to tell you to hang in there. I was really and truly off the wall with my manic episode. I had to be hospitalized as an inpatient after I tried to commit suicide. I was as depressed as they come. I figured my whole life was over. My wife made me go to the VA after my hospitilazation for depression. I had no idea that they could help me. I had given up on all help from anyone. I have been blessed and it has worked out for the better. I can't work now, which is a bummer, but now I know why I had so much trouble keeping a job. Hell, I had been bi-polar for years and didn't know it. My best to you, and I know you can come through this. I didn't think I could either. I eventually got caught up on all my bills, and even bought another new (used) car. Things will get better. There are so many people here on this website who will help you navigate through these waters. They're all here for the asking. Don't give up. Keep on fighting like you always have. It's just a rough patch. Best wishes, sb |

Also, have you tried contacting the Solders, Sailors and Marine fund? They may be able to help with some of your housing.
