The POA table is a table where your Power of Attorney, normally a vetrans servuce organization like VFW or American Legion, reviews rating decisions. After
POA review the file goes to the Post Decision team for processing. How long it takes after POA review varies by Regional Office. I suggest that you contact
your Service Officer and ask what the rating decision said.

Does a POA or a VSO have any input after it leaves the rating board? Can they stand up on behalf of the veteran and oppose the decision?

My husbands State VSO told us the ratings board was the next to the last step in the process. Well his file went to the ratings board in April, then he got a
appt for a C&P exam. He had that appt on June 7th. SO I am not sure what step the ratings board is. I am going to call him tomorrow.
Reality is determined not by what scientists or anyone else says or believes but by what the evidence reveals to us.

I didn't use a VSO nor a POA, so will mine still go to the VSO? After the rating board, what is the last step?

If you don't have a VSO with a POA at the Regional Office it won't go to a VSO.

To answer you question. A COPY (and only a copy) goes to the POA (power of attorney/VSO) table and the original, signed rating decision, to the appropriate
POST-DETERMINATION team. What occurs here is two-fold. First, a VSR (veterans service representative) takes the rating and your c-file, and VERIFIES your
effective date that has been granted by the rater. This then determines your pay start date. This is done by programming your data into one of two computer
systems. The VSR will then create your letter. Much of the letter is form, but there is always some free text involved because each case is a little different.
After this is complete it goes to someone called and authorizer. This person is the last to look over both the rating and the c-file to ensure that the work
done by the POST team is in accordance with current manual guidance. If it is, he/she will pay the award (this is called "Y'ing" the award -
stands for yes), if an error is discovered, the award is N'd (stands for no) and it goes back to either the rater (if it was an error with the rater) or to
the POST team (if it was an error with the letter or the pay start date, # of dependents, etc...)
Kalbi...Yes, often VSOs will see and error and go right to the rater and ask him about it. Often times a VSO will catch and error and it is generally fixed on the spot...

Thank you for your time in explaining the process. I do appreciate the explanation and the details on how the process goes after a rather. I was told the June 9th it left the rater. So I was wondering where it actually went . I do have VSO but he is out of the country and I spoke to one of his CO-worker VSO guy and he said he won't be in the RO till Thursday. If it left the raters /June 9th do you have an idea how much longer it would be before I hear back fromthem. |

Like most big companies, there are end of the month quotas. MOST ROs complete all their ratings by month's end (even if that takes overtime, and it often
does). The POST teams most likely will have it processed by the end of the month. Unfortunately, this doesn't necessarily mean it will be authorized.
Ratings are the easiest (and most productive) tasks for POST teams to do, so they get done fairly quickly. I suspect that no later than the 1st week of July
you'll see money and the letter - THIS IS ONLY AN EDUCATED GUESS!!! Good luck, and thanks for your service!

Maybe a dumb question | #13 | ||

I filed for DMII in March 08 through the County VSO. I haven't heard anything yet. Will I have a C&P for this claim? I am new to this stuff and am sure
glad that I found this site.

Ken 66, Yes you have to have a C&P. When I filed my claim for DMII, I had to do the AO Registry physical, that was my C&P? I filed first week of April
2008, Atlanta.
Good Luck................... do not think you have to change your avatar...

Ken, this is ONE thing the 800 # can help you with without problems: call them and ask if they have a record of your claim being received. They should be able
to tell you the date that the claim was entered into the computer which should be anywhere from a day or two after the actual date of receipt of the claim to
several days later.
Take anything else they tell you with a grain of salt. Then wait. |

This process is what a claim must go through whether or not is has been approved. Even a disapproval must be entered into the system.
