I suppose if you are in good health any ole health plan will do.
I need specialists for cardio, uro, gastro and cancer.
I have a bad heart. 2 MIs, 4 stents and afib.
I live need a small VA clinic with a PCP. The big VA clinic with the specialists I need is 160 mile round trip. So I opt for Medicare and BCBS Plan F.
I called the Choice # a couple of weeks ago to see if Choice might be good for me.
The lady said I was not enrolled. I asked her to enroll me. She said I have to go to my Enrollment Department. We figured out she was talking about the little VA clinic near my house.
I called the little clinic near my house and asked about Choice enrollment because I needed specialists and no VA specialists were near by.
The nurse at the little VA clinic near my house said I would have to make an appointment with my VA PCP. If my VA PCP felt like I needed a specialist she would send me for a consult with the VA cardio Dr at the big VA clinic 160 mile trip. If the VA cardio Dr felt like I needed a cardio Dr near my house he/she would so advise my VA PCP.
I would have to get consults for each of the specialists, cardio, uro, gastro and cancer.
Then my VA PCP would file out a “Choice Request form” if she feels I need specialists near by.
Then the Choice folks will find me a specialist. I noticed my private cardio dr is not on the Choice list.
I don’t need the stress. If I have chest pains making a 160 mile round trip to see a VA Cardio Dr is not a good option for me. I gladly pay the Medicare and BCBS plan F.
What say you?
